I didn't like not having as many options as you do with rifles.Įdit Something else I noticed is how shockingly common it is for enemies to have more energy resistance than ballistic resistance. I might have also liked pistols more if plasma guns weren't so weird the way the damage is split, the slow speed of the projectiles, the way the projectiles manage to catch on things constantly and yet have a really hard time hitting enemy hit boxes, etc. The fewer shots in VATS is quite literally the only weakness. The game still eventually got easy with everything maxed out and fully upgraded, of course, but I definitely prefer the increased power, accuracy, and for most of the game, range, of rifles. The laser and plasma pistols are basically worse than the rifles unless you are heavily using VATS with the luck perks to benefit criticals and give you more of them (I played with low luck but high agility, so I could fire off a ton of shots, but it also TOOK a ton of shots to kill things).
I only used it when I needed to take advantage of penetrator. 44 is rather disappointing slow to fire, slow to reload, even annoying to aim because it's single action and it moves every time you shoot (and really limited ammo for a long time).
